On every packet of cigarette, manufacturers inform buyers of the harmful effects of smoking cigarettes. There are not many products in the world that warns its consumers of the adverse effects of the product, which goes to stress the point about the negative consequences of tobacco smoking. There is a compelling body of scientific data which links smoking to many deadly diseases with lung cancer being the most prominent among them. However, these claims cannot be made of vapes. According to the results of a study conducted by researchers from the University College London, the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention, switching to e-cigarettes can result into significantly lower health risks to smokers as vapes help to reduce exposure to toxins and carcinogens found in cigarette smoke. In their conclusion, the researchers stated that vaping is far safer than smoking. No matter the perspective you are looking at smoking from, it is harmful and will always be detrimental to a smoker’s health.

The Harmful Effects of Smoking

An estimated 52 million North Americans are smokers, and half of this number die from diseases caused by the harmful chemicals present in the cigarette smoke. In the UK, records show that 100,000 people lose their lives from smoking-related diseases every year, although the number of smokers has been reduced drastically due to the massive awareness given its harmful effects on the health. Apart from the ultra-addictive nicotine present in cigarettes, cigarette smoke also contains thousands of dangerous chemicals including arsenic and tar. No doubt, smoking kills, but it drags its victims through extremely excruciating pain before they die. Some of the diseases caused by smoking include lung cancer, heart diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), stroke, reproductive defects in females, asthma, diabetes, premature birth, blindness, and many other cancers and so on. Apart from diseases and ill health, smoking causes a lot of psychological problems for the smoker and results in vast amounts of economic loss as billions of dollars that could be spent on infrastructure and education go into anti-smoking campaigns. The LSE reports that relative to smoking which causes about 99.6 percent harm when used, the use of vapes cause a comparable damage of only 3.4 percent harm to the user. Vaping is known to be an efficient way of helping smokers quit their smoking habits thereby reducing the risk of tobacco-related diseases and deaths.

Why vaping is safer for your health

Electronic cigarettes mimic smoking by delivering a tobacco-free, vaporized liquid to the mouth of a vaper, making it a healthier and safer alternative to tobacco smoking. Vaping does not produce any harmful smokes that can cause pollution or harm people who inhale it and has not been linked with any health problems.

Vapes don’t produce any disgusting ashes in their wake, are free of the offensive odors common with cigarettes, and come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and flavors. Vapes contain nicotine, but they are far safer to use than cigarettes as the nicotine is present in a very low dosage which significantly reduces the risk of nicotine addiction. Vapes are also more cost-effective as they come with rechargeable batteries and last longer. Countries such as the UK classify vapes ad medication, and it has helped many smokers quit their harmful habit by providing them with a safer alternative. When smokers switch to vaping, the chances of coming down with tobacco-related diseases is reduced dramatically.

There is no doubt about the dangers of smoking to the health as studies have proven the case beyond every reasonable doubt. The question is whether vapes are as safe as manufacturers and marketers claim to be. But from the little evidence we have about the product, we can say that for now, vapes are far safer than smoking, and are a safer and healthier alternative to people who want to quit their smoking habits.
